Beach Naturalists at Burfoot Park  - A successful pilot


The SSEA Volunteer Beach Naturalists participated in a pilot program at Burfoot Park, 6927 Boston Harbor Rd. NE, Olympia.  The naturalists were on the beach for 2 hours around the low tide during all the Saturdays and Sundays in August.  The Beach Naturalists received training in helping beach visitors identify what they were seeing and learn more about marine life, habitat and estuaries.

The pilot was very well received.  Evaluations were collected from Beach Naturalists and beach visitors.  This information will be tabulated.  The results will be published when complete.  SSEA will use this information to modify and improve this program for future years.

If we are able to secure funding from donations, membership, and grants, SSEA plans to expand the Beach Naturalist program to additional South Puget Sound beaches and to all summer months.
